New Leader elected to East Baton Rouge School Board;
Dadrius Lanus Defeats incumbent in District 2
BATON ROUGE, LA–Education advocates applaud the election of Dadrius Lanus (61%) who defeated incumbent Vereta Lee (39%) in the runoff race for East Baton Rouge Parish School Board’s District 2 seat, according to unofficial election results. Louisiana Charter Schools in Action (LCSA) believes voters have chosen a quality education champion. The results from November and today’s election clears a path for the newly-elected school board to act with urgency to focus on the entire district; especially underperforming schools.
Louisiana Charter Schools in Action released the following statement from Executive Director, Caroline Roemer.
“This is a great victory for Dadrius Lanus and for all of the students and families of East Baton Rouge Parish schools. The election of a new board marks the beginning of new leadership and a fresh vision for the district. We are grateful to the voters for ensuring a new path for the future of public education in Baton Rouge.”
“Louisiana Charter Schools in Action hopes all board members and Superintendent Warren Drake are aligned in a vision to put students first and provide quality education options for all students and families, including those in chronically underperforming schools. This new board now has an opportunity to put forth a solid policy to build synergy around charter schools as quality education options in the district.”
LCSA looks forward to working with the newly sworn-in board to shift the vision of the East Baton Rouge School Board toward improving outcomes for each and every student and family in Baton Rouge. LCSA remains committed to ensuring that Board members make the best decisions for kids, parents and community members and value bold leadership, innovation, equity and accountability in each decision that comes before the board.
